The Journey of Humanity: From Perishing to Eternity

Introduction: Every atom in the universe bears witness to the fact that nothing

here is permanent. The Quran declares: “Everyone upon the earth will perish”

(55:26). However, behind this transience lies a profound eternity, reserved

exclusively for “Humanity.”

Why Only Humans? The question arises: everything will be held accountable, so

why is reward and punishment only for humans? The answer lies in “Consciousness”

and “Free Will.” Animals will also be judged (as stated in Hadith, even a

hornless sheep will get justice from a horned one), but they will be turned to

dust thereafter because they lacked the moral agency to choose between right and

wrong. Humans were appointed as the “Khalifa” (Vicegerent) of Allah, gifted with

the light of intellect to distinguish between darkness and light.

The Philosophy of Light (Noor) and Darkness (Zulmat): As you correctly noted,

when a person performs good deeds, they cultivate an internal “Noor” (Light).

Conversely, sins create “Zulmat” (Darkness). The Quran says: “Allah is the

Protector of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the

light” (Al-Baqarah: 257). On the Day of Judgment, this light will be a person’s

guide. Those with light will find their way to eternal bliss, while those filled

with the darkness of evil will be naturally drawn toward suffering and

purification (the Fire).

The Divine Detector (The Scale/Mizan): On the Day of Resurrection, the Mizan

(The Scale) will act as a Divine Detector. It won’t just weigh physical acts; it

will detect the essence of a person’s soul. If a human has cultivated light

within, the Scale will align them with the joys of Paradise. If the soul is

burdened by the “rust” of sins, it will require the “fire” of punishment to be

cleansed.

Wisdom of the Pious: Ibrahim ibn Adham (R.A) once said: “You know you must die,

yet you act as if you will live forever. You know the Scale is real, yet you do

not prepare your weight.”

Conclusion: This life is a golden opportunity to “recharge” our souls with the

light of good deeds. Before the “Divine Detector” of the Day of Judgment meets

us, we must ensure our hearts are free from the darkness of malice, greed, and

arrogance. Let us strive for goodness today so that our tomorrow is filled with

light.
