Time is Power and strength : The Architect of Destiny and the Silent Judge of Life
By: [Muhammad Irshad Ghaffari]
In the grand theater of existence, there is an invisible force that builds empires and humbles kings, a force that can turn a pauper into a legend or a genius into a memory. That force is Time. We often say “Time is Money,” but in reality, Time is Power. It is the only currency that cannot be earned back once spent, and the only investment that yields the highest interest if used wisely today.
1. The Divine Seal: Time as a Witness
The Creator of the Universe Himself emphasizes the gravity of time. In the Holy Qur’an, Allah (SWT) swears by time in Surah Al-Asr:
“By the passage of Time! Verily, man is in a state of loss…”
When the Almighty swears by something, it signifies its ultimate importance. This verse is a divine warning: those who do not value the fleeting moments are destined for spiritual and worldly bankruptcy. However, Allah also gives a beacon of hope to those who use their time for faith, good deeds, and truth.
2. Today’s Toil is Tomorrow’s Triumph
The secret of every “overnight success” is years of disciplined hours. You must understand a fundamental law of life: If you cover for time today, time will cover for you tomorrow.
When you guard your minutes, when you choose hard work over idle gossip, and when you invest your energy into self-improvement, you are building a reservoir of strength. Tomorrow, when the storms of life arrive, this invested time acts as your shield and your support. Time is a faithful companion; it never forgets the sweat you poured into it. It returns your hard work in the form of dignity, authority, and success.
3. The Prophetic Wisdom: The Two Lost Treasures
Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave us a profound psychological insight into human nature. He said:
“There are two blessings which many people lose: Health and Free Time.” (Sahih Bukhari)
He also urged us to seize five things before five others, emphasizing “your youth before your old age” and “your free time before your preoccupation.” These Hadiths are not just religious instructions; they are the ultimate blueprints for a productive life. They teach us that “free time” is not a license for laziness, but a golden opportunity for greatness.
4. The Mirror of History: Kings and Scholars
History is the greatest teacher. Look at the giants of the past—the brilliant scholars, the wise philosophers, and the world-conquering kings. What set them apart? It was their obsession with time.
The Legends: Men like Sultan Saladin Ayyubi or the great polymaths of the Islamic Golden Age did not reach the heights of glory by wishing; they reached them by working while the world slept. They treated time as a sacred trust, and in return, Time made their names immortal.
The Fallen: Conversely, read the tragic chronicles of kings who inherited vast empires but squandered their hours in vanity and hedonism. When they neglected time, time abandoned them. Their crowns were lost, their names were tarnished, and they became mere footnotes of “decline” (Zawaal) in the books of history.
5. The Gravity of Waste
To “kill time” is not a hobby; it is a slow suicide. Every hour spent in meaningless activity is a brick removed from the foundation of your future. Those who disregard the value of time eventually find themselves at the mercy of those who valued it. The “decline” mentioned in history is always preceded by a waste of “moments.”
6. Make Your Time Work for You
If you want to save your life and the lives of those around you, you must change your relationship with the clock.
Be Intentional: Don’t let the day run you; you run the day.
Choose Purpose over Pleasure: Instant gratification is the thief of long-term glory.
Protect Your Focus: In an age of digital distractions, the one who can focus for an hour is more powerful than a king with a thousand distracted soldiers.
Conclusion: The Choice is Yours
Time is a neutral power. It can be your greatest ally or your fiercest enemy. If you respect it, it will carry you to the peaks of success and honor. If you insult it by wasting it, it will leave you in the shadows of regret.
Remember, the clock is ticking not to remind us that we are dying, but to remind us that now is the time to live, to work, and to leave a legacy. Use your time for the sake of Allah and the service of humanity, and watch how Time turns you into a person of power.
- “Yesterday is a dream, tomorrow is a vision, but today well-lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.”
